More recently, I have been using Fusion 360 and now Lightburn. I have dabbled in Photo editing on a much less regular basis and find that even more challenging. I started learning Corel Draw as a home user 25 years ago and I am still finding out new things that I can do with the software on a regular basis. In my case probably a half a brain as I'm sure I lost a lot of brain cells in the sixties in university.another story for another time.Īny Vector Graphics ,Photo editing or 3D design software has a big learning curve. Still takes some learning and I often find my homemade approach lacking in some areas but it is doable with breaking your brain and at the end you have a layout that is yours and yours only. Take the photos myself (or borrow from the internet.easy but often the resolution is poor) and learn how to manipulate them into structures for the layout. OK, before giving up totally I tried using the bitmap approach. Design the structure then move the files to a program to add textures or photos.Īfter about six months of trying that method I realized that I just wasn't getting what I wanted.I won't list all the bloody wasn't pretty. Since I was told that a vector program was more accurate, cleaner, easily modified files and what all the pros use I figured that vectors was the way to go. I started out with two programs to learn how to use them in model railroad projects. If you are going to do photo laminated structure scratch building get a BITMAP editor like AP. If you are doing railroad logos and text oriented artwork for decal production use a VECTOR program. So I don't need Affinity Photo for drawing either.Affinity Photo is a photo editing program and works primarily with BITMAPS/RASTERIZED images. I don't need Corel Painter 2021 because I already have Clip Studio Paint Pro and tend to prefer anime-style drawing. And for the PaintShop bundle, it also has AfterShot Pro 3 so I guess maybe it's better in terms of photo editing and management. I've already decided to buy Affinity Designer so I think Affinity Photo would better integrate with Designer. I don't need to edit photos that much but I see there is a technique called photobashing maybe I can leverage. I imagine I'll be more likely to draw vector-based art so actually, I'm not sure to what extent pixel-based software will help. I just started to make simple art so I don't really know what I'll need in the near future. And my goal isn't to be a game artist but a game designer. I'm not a professional but just a student of design major. My use case I think will be mainly for game art, especially for game UI. Affinity Photo is on the Black Friday sale and Corel PaintShop Pro 2021 is on Humble Bundles for $30 including Corel Painter 2021, AfterShot Pro 3, and so on.
